Compassion or Love?

We feel bad. We recognize need. We talk about it with others, buy the T-shirt, and even read the books. But so often we fall short of doing anything. We often confuse the heart of compassion that requires a response with the feeling of sympathy that remains idle.
Most of us hear about need and sympathize. But that's not compassion. It’s not justice. It’s not mercy. Sympathy remains only sympathy until we do something about it. Then it becomes an act of compassion: an appropriate response to the call of need. Justin Dillon described it best: "A call is someone sharing their need. Sharing their oppression. A response is someone saying I hear you, I get you, and here's what I'm gonna do."
I once read an anonymous quote that I think captures our situation well:
Sometimes I would like to ask God why He allows poverty, suffering, and injustice when He could do something about it. But, I'm afraid He would ask me the same question...

PINA - A film for PINA BAUSCH by WIM WENDERS - pina bausch: "Born as Philippine Bausch in 1940 in Solingen; under her nickname Pina she will later achieve international reputation with her Tanztheater based in nearby Wuppertal. Her parents run an inn as part of a hotel in Solingen, where Pina, like her siblings, lent a hand. She learns to observe people; above all, what moves people deep down. In her later work small pieces of this early childhood environment seem to resound: the sound of music, people coming and going, telling of their longing for happiness. But also the early experience of war is reflected in the pieces, as sudden outbursts of panic and fear of an anonymous threat."

PINA - A film for PINA BAUSCH by WIM WENDERS - about the movie: "PINA is a feature-length dance film in 3D with the ensemble of the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch, featuring the unique and inspiring art of the great German choreographer, who died in the summer of 2009.

PINA is a film for Pina Bausch by Wim Wenders.

He takes the audience on a sensual, visually stunning journey of discovery into a new dimension: straight onto the stage with the legendary Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch ensemble, he follows the dancers out of the theatre into the city and the surrounding areas of Wuppertal - the place, which for 35 years was the home and centre for Pina Bausch's creativity."

The Rival Dutchess

The Rival Dutchess; or, Court Incendiary

In a Dialogue between Madam Maintenon, and Madam M.
1708

Madam Maintenon. I desire you will oblige me in the Request I made to you before of telling me such Passages in your Life as you may reasonably suppose I am a Stranger to.
Madam M. Madam, you have guess'd right, for a considerable part of my Life has been imployed in Love, tho' I deceiv'd the World in their Opinion of me, as to that Particular, as much as ever my forementioned Friend. Especially at Court I was taken for a more modish Lady, that was rather addicted to another Sort of Passion, of having too great a Regard for my own Sex, insomuch that few People thought I would ever have Married; but to free my self from that Aspersion some of our Sex labour under, for being too fond of one another, I was resolved to Marry as soon as I could fix to my Advantage or Inclination.
Madam Maintenon. And does that Female Vice, which is the most detestable in Nature, Reign among you, as it does with us in France, where our young Ladies are that Way debauch'd in their Nunnery Education, so that few People of Quality care now to have their Daughters brought up in those Places?
Madam M. O, Madam, we are arriv'd to as great Perfection in sinning that way as you can pretend to, as you may guess by the following Story. A Lady of Fashion calling for a Comrade of hers, a Pretty Young Creature, to carry her to the Play, a Gentleman of her Acquaintance then visiting her, gave her his Hand to the Coach, where having put the Lady, the Glass was immediately drawn up, and the Innocent Young Lady cried aloud for Help the Gentleman running after, thing some Accident might have happen'd, the Lady desire to go out of the Coach, and be carried home again. The Gentleman was surprised to see the La[d]y in such a Fright, and not guess any Reason for it, conducted her home; but afterwards was inform'd by another Female Friend of hers, that the Lady, who called for her in the Coach, as she apprehended, attempted to Ravish her; what she meant by it the Innocent Young One was a Stranger to; but these Things are no Novelties with us now.
Maintenon. Il est possible?

NOTES: 'Madame M.' is Abigail Masham, Queen Anne's favourite. She displaced Sarah Churchill, Duchess of Marlborough (who was a distant cousin) in the Queen's favours, and this satire was probably written by Arthur Maynwaring, the Duchess of Marlborough's private secretary. He wrote several other satires on Abigail Masham, including King Abigail: or, The Secret Reign of the She-Favourite (1715), and A New Ballad. To the Tune of Fair Rosamond (1708), in which he hinted at lesbian relations between Abigail and Queen Anne. Sarah Churchil in a letter to the Queen dated 16 July 1708 accused her of destroying her reputation by showing such a great passion for Abigail and by 'having noe inclination for any but one's own sex'. The satire is interesting in showing how early the concept of 'cover marriages' existed.SOURCE: The Rival Dutchess; or, Court Incendiary, London, 1708, pp. 6-7.CITATION: If you cite this Web page, please use the following citation:

Rev. Dr. Mark Achtemeier: Coming Out as an Evangelical Supporter of Gay Rights: "I'll never forget a conversation I had in 2001 with a gay man who was in a committed, long-term partnership. I had been arguing that his relationship was sinful when he said, "My relationship is the part of my life that demands the greatest sacrifice and stretches me the most in my ability to love. I believe in confessing and repenting my sins. I work at it regularly. But far from feeling sinful, this area of my life that brings out the very best in me.""

Letter to my beloved

My beloved adoring Lady,

Today I have been pondering how our Love bloomed.
At first that was just a little seed-Watered by some flirts, buried into my heart and then the roots begun to sprout out of my heart.Traveling from my chest to Your mind where the roots wrapped around You slowly.Until we were entwined together.Hopelessly entwined in our Love.
I have always marveled at how You choose me.I was like a tiny flower...

Rev. Ed Bacon: Being Gay Is a Gift from God

Rev. Ed Bacon: Being Gay Is a Gift from God: "And it is time to take to heart the words of Rabbi Abraham Heschel, who famously said, "Few are guilty, but all are responsible." I may not be guilty of the religion-based bigotry that has wounded countless members of God's beloved LGBT children, but I am responsible for offering a counter-narrative to the lies that have been told about the God I serve -- the God of love, justice and compassion.

My faith tradition teaches that the truth will set you free -- and the truth is: God loves.

The truth is: love trumps.

And the truth is: Being gay is a gift from God."

You and me

Characteristics of a Pig
Pure hearted and hedonistic, the Pig is the last but not least of the 12 signs. If for no other reason, Pigs have more fun. Who can't help but like the easy going, helpful, courteous and kindly Pig? They make great friends and sensual lovers. Yes, Pigs love anything that appeals to the senses, music, jacuzzis, and of course good food and drink. And, no one more optimistically looks forward to the joys of retirement. On the down side, Pigs are often naive and trusting to a fault. It's no challenge to con a Pig. They're not that great when it comes to managing money either. And, they can be impulsive, often reacting to a situation without thinking. These faults and a gentle nature often mask the Pig's very real inner strength.
Positive Traits:
Chivalrous, good natured, hard working, honest, intellectual, kind, polite, pragmatic, resilient, sociable, strong willed, and studious.
The Pig, the last sign of the Chinese zodiac, is clear evidence of the old saying, nice guys finish last. You are honest, good hearted and present a kindly face to friends and strangers alike. Your affection is genuine, and your love has no bounds. You are usually very chivalrous. Courtesy and generosity are a way of life with you.
Being a social animal you have many opportunities to exhibit those qualities. You tend to be naturally happy, due in no small part because you most often avoid making judgments and see the good side of people. You are no punster, but you probably have a nice, earthy sense of humor. All in all, you are pleasant, cheerful, co operative and normally do well in group situations. Although the Pig is a member of the gentle group (Rabbit-Sheep-Pig), you do have an inner strength beneath that congenial exterior. Although it is true you play hard, you also work hard when work needs to be done. You also tend to be very resilient, not easily worn down by life's challenges. And, you are probably strong-willed.
Your fixed element is Water, which means you also have an intellectual side. You may not be a scholar, but you tend to like school in general and reading in particular. You also are a bit more logical and practical than your heart sign might otherwise suggest.
Negative Traits:
Complaisant, egotistical, gluttonous, lenient, long winded, naive, self centered, self destructive, stubborn, slow of mind, superficial and wanton.
It is rather easy to take advantage of the good natured Pig. You can be extremely naive in the amount of trust given to other people, especially when it is probably not warranted. You are also most likely complaisant, meaning you are too accommodating. You give in too easily to others' wishes. In truth more often than not you are simply a soft touch. This is particularly the case when you are in a position of authority where you are too lenient more times than perhaps you should be. It must be said that not all your faults are due to you being overly nice. There is another side to you. You have a tendency to be self centered and egotistical. Although you have a genuine humanitarian streak, the truth is you usually put your needs first. Probably because you occasionally think you know it all, you tend to be long winded. People occasionally just have to break in and tell you to shut up.
This loquaciousness can bother people in another way. The fact is you tend to be superficial. After a while your talk can just seem repetitive. Furthermore, you are probably not known as a quick thinker, but you do have a fairly quick temper.
All in all, you are relatively harmless when it comes to others, but it is a different story when it comes to yourself. When apparently overcome by events you can enter into your self destructive mode. It can manifest itself as gluttony or just plain sadness. You are easily disheartened when slandered and saddened when your feelings are hurt, you experience disappointments, or just see others being sad. At your worst you engage in wanton pursuit of pleasure.
Qualities Admired: Integrity, sensuality.
Pet Peeves: A "heavy" (oppressive) atmosphere, fanaticism.
Characteristics of a Horse
Independent and sporty, the Horse is the male sign. The often flamboyant Horse tends to be the life of the party and is great fun to be around. They tend to love sports and, or, outdoor activities and don't mind some rough and tumble action. They function best when they have lots of freedom. The downside is they function poorly when bridled, e.g., tied down by routine. The Horse tends to be selfish and self absorbed, letting others fend for themselves, which is the Horse's preferred mode of operation. In spite of the enthusiasm with which they begin things, they tend to lose it rather quickly. You have to work to keep their interest. Ah, but it's worth it!
Positive Traits:
Adventurous, colorful, dapper, decisive, dynamic, energetic, fun loving, independent, quick in mind and body, sociable, sporting, vivacious.
The adventurous, fun loving Horse enjoys the outdoors as well as a variety of sports. It is no chore to get you to go to the fitness center to work out, but you truly enjoy the combination of working out and being outdoors---hiking, jogging, biking, rock wall climbing. The Horse is a fun member of any team and always likely to be found where the action is.
Speaking of action, the Horse can be a human dynamo. Furthermore, you can stay in an action mode a lot longer than the rest of us. Others see you as a very vivacious person due to your high energy level. It is not only your vitality that catches our attention and wins our respect. You are quick in both mind and body, and cut a dapper, colorful figure as you rush in and out of our lives.
Yes, even though you are most independent, you still love to be around lots of people. The catch is it is you who decides when and where the party will be. No one ever said you were afraid to make a decision.
Negative Traits:
Fickle, headstrong, impatient, impulsive, ostentatious, petty, rash, self indulgent, selfish, stubborn, temperamental, unstable.
The Horse has been accused of being headstrong more than once. Add to this a stubborn streak and a bit of a temper, and you can be difficult to be around at times.
You can also be selfish and self indulgent as you pursue your interests oblivious to ours. Your pettiness is almost unbearable at times. It is even worse when you do not get your way.
Yes, you have to have things your way---now. Often impatient and rash, you engage in impulsive behavior more than the rest of us.
In truth stability is not your strong suit. You are fickle, especially when it comes to fashions. Even though you usually dress smartly and look good, that is not enough for you. You tend to be ostentatious and not beyond trying to impress us with pretentious displays of extravagance.
Qualities Admired: Directness, ability to keep up with you.
Pet Peeves: Being held on a short leash, dwelling on your mistakes.
Compatibility of Year Signs -- Pig and Horse
This is a mediocre match. You're very different people, and the easy going Pig may not always be able to keep up with the dynamic Horse. You both know how to have fun and can usually exist in harmony.

Hebrews 13:5

Today I want you to think about the worst thing that could happen in your life. Is it sickness? Bankruptcy? Loneliness? Normally I like to talk about nice things, but I want to share with you how God has been helping me with my worry. You see, I worry a lot. And most of my worries never come true.

But say the worst of the worst happened, whatever that is for you. There are a few things you can know will never be affected, no matter what goes wrong:
  • God will still be glorified: “’As surely as I live,' says the LORD, ‘every knee will bend to Me, and every tongue will confess and give praise to God'" (Romans 14:11)
  • God will never leave you: “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5)
  • Jesus will never stop loving you: “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:39)

So I’d like you to do this exercise with me. Fill in the blank with your worst worry and say out loud: “If God wants to glorify Himself through _______________, then so be it. He will never leave me, abandon me, or take His love away from me. And I will arrive at the End of Days with Jesus in Heaven.”

Because that is the ultimate worst-case scenario: that you would arrive at the Day of Judgment and not be admitted into Heaven. But Jesus has promised you: “My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from Me” (John 10:27,28).

Clara of my Heart

When a harsh word ...
You understand that the dangerous power of gossip and murmuring. And today they are very extended - in a secular society, but in Christian circles. There is nothing worse than a Christian who speaks evil brother/sister Christian - speaking evil or bad about it. We gossip about the envy or hurt. Libel is when you speak falsely against others! One should be aware that no one is perfect. Each of us has good and bad things. It is possible that we have before us a wonderful person who certainly has its weaknesses. Slander and people do that all the attention put on her other faults, weaknesses and shortcomings. More generally we are not able to see in it what is good and positive. So then slandering our eyes become dark and evil. And if our eyes are sick, all of our soul is sick because they can no longer see the light or the grace that God does in us and others. So we gossip closes for the grace of God! I myself have often experienced the ill effects of gossip. I must tell you that I never once was not easy! When I was slandered and defamed second, falsely accused and condemned, I felt - literally - as if someone is stabbing me with a thousand arrows, as if someone had released a pack of mad dogs attacking me and biting him. I had to invest a lot of strength to fight against it attacked me, instead I have the power consumed in the spread of God's kingdom. What is the saddest: the liberation forces of evil are my brothers who are supposed to stand beside me as my help, encouragement and zaštita.Offen  we, instead, we help each other and a blessing, in her speech we let each other the forces of evil that bite and destroy our lives. Thus each other miserable life, instead of doing it easier and more enjoyable through acts of love and mercy! That is why Creator of Life urges us to be merciful - because then we obtain mercy!

                My  beloved,
Somehow I am again here with You.
You are merciful, aren't You my beautiful Clara of my heart.
I don't know, today I forgot to send it before bed time story.
